A warm welcome to the official website of the Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University!
With the approval of Hanban, the Office of Chinese Language Council International of the Chinese Government, the Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University was established in October 2006. The Ateneo de Manila University is a 152-year old institution founded by Jesuit priests. It is one of the top universities in the Philippines.
The Ateneo Confucius Institute has, as its partner, Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, also a top university in China.
While still keeping its office in the University’s main campus, last year the Institute constructed a new place inside the Ateneo Professional Schools in Makati City, the Commercial Business District of Metro Manila.
The new location is convenient for professionals—particularly from the business sector and the diplomatic corps, to attend our classes and join our cultural events. For classes, we have regular ones and also one-on-one sessions.
Our new home consists of office space for directors and staff, classrooms, consultation rooms, audio-visual room, a board room, a Reading Room, and the Chinese Culture Experience Center.
Our Reading Room houses more than 5000 books and audio or visual materials donated by Hanban. The Chinese Culture Experience Center has nine 42” screens that exhibit different aspects of Chinese culture such as food, music, and martial arts. It also has on display some Chinese artifacts such as replicas of terra cotta soldiers, musical instruments, etc.
Please see for yourself these places. I hope you enjoy your visit to our Institute.
